Ms. Janssen’s primary practice area is health care law as she helps health care providers and businesses navigate the web of complex regulations governing the industry.

Ms. Janssen represents clients on matters involving credentialing and retention of privileges, professional licensing, investigations, administrative proceedings before regulatory agencies and hospital committees, payor audits, employment and independent contractor agreements, medical records, and leases. She understands Nevada and Federal Stark Anti-Kickback, False Claims, and HIPAA laws, and counsels clients on the applicability of those laws to various health care transactions. With respect to HIPAA compliance matters, Ms. Janssen counsels clients in understanding and complying with data breach reporting obligations and she provides representation to clients who are the subject of an investigation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (“OCR”).

Ms. Janssen represents clients before most of Nevada’s professional licensing boards, including those boards regulating physicians, dentists, physician assistants, nurses, physical therapists, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, massage therapists, veterinarians and chiropractors. In addition to representing healthcare providers in hospital peer review matters, Ms. Janssen has also been retained as a hearing officer for hospital fair hearings.

Before coming to Cook & Kelesis, Ltd., Ms. Janssen worked as in-house Corporate Counsel for the Nevada Cancer Institute where she was responsible for handling all of the day-to-day legal and regulatory affairs for the Institute; worked in private practice where she focused on the legal and regulatory needs of health care practitioners; and spent ten years with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office–Civil Division, advising government agencies and officials on business and privileged licensing matters, as well as handled litigation involving challenges aimed at overturning administrative and/or board decisions.
